Thrissur: Southern Railway plans to overhaul Thrissur railway station in Kerala. The official X platform handle of Southern Railway's Thiruvananthapuram Division noted that Thrissur is poised to receive a world-class railway station that harmonises its cultural heritage with modern rail conveniences.

The station's redevelopment, part of the Union Government's Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, will involve significant upgrades at a projected cost of Rs 393.57 crore.

The revamped Thrissur Railway Station will cover a built-up area of 54,330 sqm and will include numerous modern amenities. Among the notable enhancements are 19 new lifts and 10 escalators, which will greatly improve accessibility and convenience for passengers. A new 36-metre-wide air concourse will also be constructed to connect all platforms.

In an effort to enhance the passenger experience, the station's parking area will be expanded from 2,520 sqm to 10,653 sqm, alongside a new multi-level car park (G+5). The redevelopment includes dedicated entry and exit points to facilitate smooth arrivals and departures.

The station will feature east and west entrance blocks, with direct road-level entry and an elevated podium for departures. Multi-modal integration will ensure a seamless transit experience for all travellers. Additionally, the project includes commercial development, including a proposed hotel, transforming Thrissur Station into a major hub.

The Amrit Bharat Station Scheme aims to enhance and modernise railway stations across the Indian Railways network. The scheme currently intends to upgrade and modernise a total of 1,275 stations throughout the network.
