Kovalam (Thiruvananthapuram): Three girls were washed away by the sea waves in Adimalathura beach. Body of one of them was later recovered from the sea and search operation is continuing to spot other two.
The girls are identified as Vizhinjam native Nisha (20), Kottukal natives Saranya (20) and Sharu Shammi (17). Among them, Nisha’s body was recovered from the sea. Nisha is daughter of late Surendran and Bindu Saroja Kidangil house in Kidarakkuzhi. Nisha and Saranya are degree students and Sharu Shammi is a Plus One student of Kottukal Government Higher Secondary School.
Nisha’s body was taken to Leeward Wharf in Coastal Guard’s boat by Friday night and later shifted to Medical College hospital. Nisha’s scooter and mobile phone and Saranya's and Sharu’s footwear, bags, and caps were found on the beach. Police shifted them to Vizhinjam police station.
The family of the girls said that they went to the beach on scooter on Friday by 3 in the evening. When they did not return even after 6 pm, the family tried to contact them. As Nisha did not answer, her relative Anand filed a complaint with Vizhinjam police.
Meanwhile, a fisherman informed the life guard that a girl’s dead body was floating in the sea. Following this, Vizhinjam Coastal SI E Shanibaz and team went on a patrolling boat and took the body to the shore. Vizhinjam SI S S Saji said that other two girls are suspected to have washed by the waves.
