Parassala (Thiruvananthapuram): Tamil Nadu residents are crossing into Kerala to purchase liquor due to the state’s different timings for alcohol sales, prompting an investigation by Tamil Nadu’s Excise team.

People from Tamil Nadu visiting the Beverages Corporation liquor shop in Parassala, Kerala, explained that in their state, liquor is only available from 12.00 pm. In contrast, Kerala allows sales from 10.00 am, making it a destination for those seeking early access to alcohol.

Excise officials investigate drop in liquor sales

On Saturday morning, a team led by Tamil Nadu Excise DySP visited the liquor shop in Parassala to investigate the considerable decline in liquor sales within Tamil Nadu. The Excise team sought information about the best-selling brands, prices and other relevant details from the Bevco employees. However, staff could only provide this information if directed by the head office.

The Tamil Nadu Excise officials also questioned the customers who had travelled from Tamil Nadu to buy alcohol and visited the nearby premium counter for further information. They took photos of the price boards displayed outside the shop before leaving.
