Kannur: A steep hike in the price of 60 food items distributed under Railways troubles the passengers.
The Southern Railway revised the rates on February 24 as per the recommendations of IRCTC and a rate review panel. Tea and coffee are excluded from the price hike.
The fixed fare of tea under Railways is Rs 5. However, the passengers cannot get this tea except a dip tea which costs Rs 10 at railway stations and trains. A coffee costs Rs 10.
The price for vegetable meals and biriyani were increased in 2019. Hence, no change has been introduced in the cost of both these items in the latest revision.
The revised charges are not applicable for meals served in food plazas inside the railway stations.
