Vadakara: MP Shafi Parambil met Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, seeking a new Intercity Express service on the Mangaluru–Coimbatore route to address overcrowding and meet the needs of passengers.

The MP also requested stoppages for major long-distance trains at key stations such as Koyilandy, Vadakara and Thalassery.

At present, there is no train from Kozhikode towards Mangaluru for nearly four hours after 6.15 pm.

As a solution, Parambil proposed introducing a new Intercity Express that would depart from Mangaluru in the morning, reach Coimbatore by noon, and leave Coimbatore in the afternoon, reaching Kozhikode around 7.30 pm before continuing towards Mangaluru.

The service would benefit daily commuters, students and traders.

The MP urged the Railway Minister to issue immediate directions to the Railway Board and Southern Railway authorities and take favourable action on the proposals.
