Kochi: The 12678 Ernakulam–KSR Bengaluru Intercity Express has been upgraded to a modern LHB (Linke Hofmann Busch) rake, marking a major enhancement in passenger experience. The newly introduced coaches promise improved speed, enhanced safety and better ride comfort—ushering in a new chapter for one of the region’s most popular intercity trains.

Railways claims that the upgrade to LHB coaches, manufactured with German technology, is a major step forward in its ongoing modernisation drive. Known for their anti-telescopic design, LHB coaches do not pile over each other in the event of a collision, remarkably improving passenger safety. They are also equipped with superior braking systems and suspension mechanisms, reducing jerks and noise, and allowing the train to run at higher speeds.

According to the Railways, apart from safety, passengers can expect a smoother and quieter journey. LHB coaches also feature better ventilation, larger windows and increased carrying capacity compared to the older ICF coaches.

The Ernakulam–Bengaluru Intercity Express is a daily connection between Kerala and Karnataka, serving business travellers, students and families alike.
