Thiruvananthapuram: For the past four days, driving licence-related services have come to a standstill in Kerala, leading to more than 25,000 applications pending approval in the Sarathi software of the Motor Vehicle Department (MVD). 

As a result, the applicants cannot pay fees, renew their driving licence or complete applications using the software. The Transport Commissioner's office informed that they notified the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways about the issue with the software.

National Informatics Centre is tasked to standardise & deploy the software VAHAN for Vehicle Registration and SARATHI for Driving Licences and compilation of data with respect to Vehicle Registration and Driving Licences of all the states in the State Register and National Register. Therefore, it is up to the union body to fix software issues.

Back in April, Transport Minister Antony Raju convened a meeting to discuss the technical issues with the software and adopt necessary changes per the need of the state government. Following this, the meeting tasked the Transport Commissioner and other officials to look into the recommendations and rectify the issues.
