Thiruvananthapuram: The union government has made it mandatory for heavy license holders seeking renewal to undergo refresher training.

For the renewal, the license holders need to submit course certificate issued by an authorized driving school.

The change has been reflected on the union government’s Sarathi Parivahan platform. From May 19, those who carried out renewal formalities were asked to submit certificate asper Form 5A.

It is important to note that Ministry of Road Transport and Highways’ notification dated 14th February, 2019 had made the submission of certificate necessary. The objective is to equip the drivers to handle the vehicle such that fuel efficiency and safe driving are ensured

Kerala government was abstaining from the implementation of the mandate. Similarly, the driving schools in the state have not yet started courses for continued training.

However, with the new updation in the platform, the state might have to abide by the mandate.

The union government had also directed the state governments to set up driver training and research institutes and regional driving training centres. For this state can allocate own fund or incorporate private players.
