Kochi: When two people with a passion for dance came together, what resulted was an extraordinary performance. A dance duo blending classical and contemporary moves has now gone viral, and social media is eagerly searching for them.

The performers are Akhil Hussain, a first-year postgraduate student, and S. Gaurinandana, a final-year undergraduate student at Sacred Heart College, Thevara. Their flawless synchronisation to the songs Yad Lagla and Thug Life stunned audiences, making it impossible for viewers to take their eyes off the performance.

The two first met at the Sacred Heart College Dance Club, where their shared love for dance created an instant connection. Together, they choreographed the dance, which was showcased during the college’s annual “Open Forum” event, a platform that regularly brings out creative talents. The duo received training in contemporary dance styles from senior students Shifas Saleem and Atul and rehearsed for 15 days, mostly in the evenings after classes.

Although the performance was originally recorded with the intention of making a reel, the video quickly gained momentum online. Within just two days, it crossed 5 million views on Instagram, attracting widespread appreciation.

“We never expected the video to go this viral. A lot of positive reactions are pouring in, and the support from family, teachers, and friends has been overwhelming. It feels wonderful when people say they loved the dance,” said Akhil Hussain.

While some negative comments surfaced, Gaurinandana remains unfazed, saying they only focus on the positive comments, and don’t mind the rest. Both students affirm they have no plans of giving up dance and intend to pursue it alongside their studies.

Akhil Hussain hails from Fort Kochi and his brother is also a performer. Gaurinandana, who is from Edappally, has been learning dance since childhood. Her mother is a classical dancer, which further nurtured her passion.
