Shoranur: The decision to run the Thiruvananthapuram- Secunderabad Sabari express bypassing Shoranur station and rerouting the Thrissur-Kozhikode Special express will put Malabar commuters in a fix. Until now, the Sabari express used to come till Shoranur railway station before going towards Thiruvananthapuram. Railway officials hint that these changes will be implemented within a week.

The arrangements are being made for the train to cross the bridge and pass through the link lane without touching Shoranur station. The stop will be allotted to Wadakkanchery instead.

This will adversely affect passengers from Thiruvananthapuram going to Kozhikode regions. Those that came from Hyderabad-Secunderabad regions and going towards Kozhikode used to alight at Shoranur before continuing their journey. This will no longer be possible.

The passenger alighting at Wadakkanchery will need to seek other trains or buses to reach Shoranur. There are also hints that the Thrissur-Kozhikode Special express will end service at Shoranur instead of Thrissur. With this, passengers travelling from Thrissur to Kozhikode will need to seek alternate travel options from Shoranur.

Officials say that although the railway board’s decision has been made, no official notification has been issued. The confederation of All India Railway users association national chairman Dr A.V Anoop, working chairman C.E Chakunni and national convenor Sunshine Shoranur say that this change in route will be met with protest by the passengers.
