Shafi Parambil defends Rahul Mamkootathil, calls out double standards in political accountability with veiled swipe at LDF leadership.

Vadakara: Palakkad MLA Rahul Mamkootathil resigning from the post of Youth Congress state president is a major step, said MP Shafi Parambil. He stated that before any court verdict or FIR was issued, Rahul had expressed his willingness to resign to the party leadership and, after discussions with the party, announced his resignation. Shafi added that no complaint had come to him in this regard. He made these remarks in Vadakara. However, he was unwilling to respond to further questions from the media. He also said that the propaganda suggesting he had absconded was not true.
"When an atmosphere of allegations arose even before a court verdict or FIR, he (Rahul) informed the party leadership of his willingness to resign and, after consultations with the party, declared his resignation. Had it been CPM leaders in his position, we would have seen them delivering moral lectures. Look—this is a resignation without an FIR, without a complaint, without a case," said Shafi Parambil.
"Now, after stepping down from the post of Youth Congress president, questions are being raised about what the Congress has done. They are blaming the Congress. The public is observing and evaluating all of M V Govindan's responses. They are trying to teach Congress about morality. If morality is the issue, then this resignation is indeed an important step. But the reason behind protests and other reactions is the belief that Congress can be weakened, its workers silenced and the government's actions temporarily hidden from the public," he added.
"Congress workers will not be demoralised," Shafi said. "When a police case has been filed and a charge sheet submitted against an MLA, if those in power decide that the MLA can remain in the post until a verdict is given, how can they then demand the resignation of a Congress MLA?" Shafi Parambil posed a question, making an indirect reference to Kollam MLA Mukesh.
