L. Murugan steps down as Union Minister of State and relinquishes his Rajya Sabha membership, citing his desire to strengthen the BJP's grassroots organisation in Tamil Nadu.

Union Minister of State L Murugan on Tuesday resigned from his ministerial positions and Rajya Sabha membership, saying he wants to return to grassroots politics and strengthen the BJP in Tamil Nadu ahead of the 2029 Lok Sabha elections.
In a statement addressed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Murugan described his tenure in the Union government as the greatest honour of his life and thanked the Prime Minister for giving him the opportunity to serve the country and Tamil Nadu.
Murugan, who held the portfolios of Information and Broadcasting and Parliamentary Affairs as a Minister of State, said he now wanted to work closely with party workers and devote himself full-time to strengthening the BJP's organisational base in Tamil Nadu.
Recalling his humble beginnings as the son of daily-wage labourers, Murugan said his journey to the Union Council of Ministers had been a privilege.
He also reiterated his guiding principle: putting the nation first, the party next, and himself last.
His decision comes as the BJP looks to strengthen its presence in Tamil Nadu ahead of the next Lok Sabha elections in 2029.
Murugan's resignation from the Union government and the Upper House marks a shift from his national-level responsibilities towards full-time party work in the state.
