Thiruvananthapuram: Former Kerala DGP and BJP councillor R. Sreelekha has withdrawn the resignation message she had shared in a WhatsApp group, reversing her earlier decision to step down from her councillor post in the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation.

R. Sreelekha has backed down from her earlier announcement that she would resign as a BJP councillor in the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation.

Sreelekha had shared a resignation message in a WhatsApp group following differences of opinion with the party. She has now withdrawn that message, indicating that she will continue as a councillor for the time being.

The development follows intervention by the BJP's Kerala leadership and efforts to resolve the differences.

BJP leadership intervenes

Thiruvananthapuram Mayor V. V. Rajesh and other BJP leaders had initiated reconciliation efforts after Sreelekha's resignation announcement.

The BJP state leadership had earlier maintained that Sreelekha would not resign from her councillor position. However, there had been no clear public response from Sreelekha after she announced her decision.

Her withdrawal of the resignation message now comes after the efforts to resolve the issue.

Sreelekha has not yet issued a public statement explaining why she withdrew the resignation message or detailing the outcome of discussions with the party leadership.

The immediate issue appears to have been contained following the intervention of senior BJP leaders, although the differences that led to the resignation announcement have not been publicly detailed.

Sreelekha, a former Director General of Police, entered electoral politics after retiring from the police service and became a BJP councillor in Thiruvananthapuram.

For now, Sreelekha is expected to continue as a councillor, following the withdrawal of her resignation message.

The development is significant for the BJP's Thiruvananthapuram unit because her earlier resignation announcement had raised questions about internal differences within the party. Her decision to withdraw the message suggests that the immediate dispute has moved towards reconciliation, although Sreelekha's own account of the matter is awaited.
