Thiruvananthapuram: Announcing that he will not resign taking responsibility for the LDF’s Lok Sabha poll debacle, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan in the State Assembly on Tuesday sought to know how many Congress-ruled State Chief Ministers have resigned following the poll rout.

"The Opposition is demanding my resignation taking responsibility for the defeat. Then why doesn't the Congress ask for the resignation of Himachal Pradesh and Karnataka Chief Ministers," Pinarayi asked.

Vijayan also stressed that Lok Sabha and Assembly elections are different, and questioned the logic behind the demand for the State Government’s resignation over the defeat in the general elections. Pinarayi also held A K Antony's resignation from the post of chief minister in 2004, which is being widely used against him now, as an outcome of the organisational issues of the Congress party. He added that it had nothing to do with the election results back then.

Pinarayi also stated that the Lok Sabha election result was not a judgment against the State Government, but against the CPM. He also stressed on the need to look into the BJP's victory in the Thrissur constituency.
