New Delhi: Fadila has arrived from the battlefield, relieved. Fadila, a medical student in Tehran, arrived in Delhi on Saturday evening through 'Operation Sindhu', which was launched to bring Indians home amid the escalating Iran-Israel tensions. Fadila Kachakaran, daughter of Muhammed, a native of Mudikkode, Malappuram, is the only Malayali who arrived in Delhi on a special flight from Iran on Saturday. Her father Muhammed had also reached Delhi airport from Dammam to receive his daughter arriving back from the battlefield. Both of them returned to Kochi on a flight on Saturday night.

Fadila joined Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences (SBUMS) in Tehran in September last year to study MBBS. She is currently in her second semester.

Fadila's father, who is a civil engineer in Saudi Arabia told Mathrubhumi that she was scheduled to return home in August as she had two months off after the exam.

"With the outbreak of war, classes in the college were suspended. Since it was expected, the danger was imminent. So, I contacted the Indian Embassy in Tehran. The embassy made proper coordination and started sending messages by creating groups on WhatsApp and Telegram, including students and parents. The fear of attack was not directly felt. Normal life there has not been a problem. However, when Operation Sindhu was announced to evacuate Indians, I decided to return home. I had already booked a ticket to reach Delhi before my daughter's arrival to return home together," said Muhammed.

Muhammed's other two daughters are medical students in Russia. The third is Fadila. The two youngest are school students.

As of Saturday, 1,117 Indians had returned.
