Hamsakkoya is the first person to die in Kerala after plasma therapy.

Malappuram: One more COVID-19 death has been reported in Kerala. A former footballer and Santhosh Trophy player Ilayidath Hamsakkoya (63) died on Saturday. With this, the death toll in Kerala touched 15.

A Parappanangadi native, Hamsakkoya died at Manjeri medical college hospital. He had returned from Maharashtra, 10 days back with family. His wife and son had first tested positive for coronavirus.

Hamsakkoya was diagnosed with pneumonia and had undergone plasma therapy. He is the first person to die in Kerala after plasma therapy.

His condition worsened by Friday afternoon. Following this, plasma therapy was conducted with permission from medical board.

Plasma from COVID recovered patients in Tirur and Payyanad was used for the treatment.

Hamsakkoya’s daughter-in-law, grandchildren (3-year-old and 3-month-old) also have been confirmed with COVID-19.

He had played football for Maharashtra for five years.
