Thiruvananthapuram: CPM state secretary MV Govindan on Sunday asserted that there is no anti-incumbency sentiment in Kerala and claimed the ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF) is set to retain power with over 90 seats.

Dismissing the claims of the United Democratic Front (UDF), he said the opposition’s projections would not materialise and that the BJP would fail to win even a single seat in the state.

“People are satisfied with the government’s performance, and what they want is continuity. After a detailed assessment, there is no doubt that the LDF will return to power with more than 90 seats. BJP will not win even a single seat. Kerala will forgive V. D. Satheesan — he does not have to go into exile,” Govindan said at a press conference.

He alleged that both the UDF and the BJP attempted to influence voters by spending money during the elections.

“There were attempts to buy votes by distributing money. Such distortions, like those seen in North India, were also visible in Kerala,” he said.

Govindan also criticised post-poll claims by UDF leaders and sections of the media, recalling similar assertions made during previous elections. He pointed out that ahead of the last Assembly polls, there were even speculative discussions about cabinet formation and leadership-sharing between Oommen Chandy and Ramesh Chennithala.

“Despite all that, the LDF won 99 seats and came to power. Similar discussions are happening now, too,” he added.

He further said that the final result on counting day would only reflect what has already been determined by voters.
