Thiruvananthapuram: Amid the controversy surrounding election funds in the BJP, former MLA of Poonjar constituency PC George has revealed details of the election fund allocated to Poonjar and hinted at financial irregularities. PC George made the allegations at a BJP meeting itself.

“The party spent around ₹4.5 crore in Poonjar. I don't know who among you took a share of it. You should ask yourselves. I did not touch any of it. The entire amount was entrusted to Saji Kurikkad. After the election, I asked Saji for the accounts. He came with the accounts after three days. I was given accounts showing expenditure of ₹4.45 crore. If those accounts are shown, it will bring shame to all our party workers.

“I called and questioned many people, but none of them knew anything. The only option is to remain silent. You just need to ask yourselves whether any of you took the money. There was a strong instruction to give ₹31,000 at each booth. How many people were given the money? Where did that money go?

“When I contested alone, there was a booth in a panchayat where I had secured a lead of 3,000 votes. When I saw that the booth had polled fewer than 50 votes, I summoned the booth president and asked what he had done with the ₹31,000. He replied that he had not received it.

“When I summoned the person entrusted with distributing the money, he said he had forgotten. There are such filthy people in the party. Many people are buying cars. If you buy a car with BJP money, it will crash and be destroyed. God will not spare anyone who steals. I am the one who gets cursed,” George said.

George claimed that despite serving as an MLA for 33 years, he had never taken even 5 paise from anyone and had led a corruption-free life. He warned that anyone using BJP funds for personal gain would ultimately not benefit from it.
