Perambra: Five years back, Nipah claimed the lives of three persons in the family of Panthirikkara native Mariyam. Soon before time heals the wound, the family is now tormented by the dues of son Salih’s education loan and the fear of the bank’s legal action. Salih's mother Mariyam and brother (Salih's) Muthaleeb are expecting the government to intervene and lend a helping hand in the dire crisis. 

In 2011, Salih had taken an educational loan of Rs 4 lakh from the Panthirikkara branch of Kerala Gramin Bank for pursuing Civil Engineering in Bengaluru. Salih’s father Moosa Musliyar was the guarantor for the loan. 

Salih, his brother Sabith and his father Moosa succumbed to Nipah in 2018. The dues of Salih’s educational loan mounted up and the branch approached Koyilandy Court. The family received a bank notice last year, asking them to pay Rs 10 lakh. 

The family had submitted petitions to various ministers, seeking to waive off the loan and offer a job to Muthaleeb. "However no action has been taken yet," noted Muthaleeb, who is a student.
