Kozhikode: A new mobile app and portal will soon help authorities predict potential landslides in Wayanad. Developed by the Geological Survey of India (GSI), the Bhusanket portal and Bhooskhalan mobile app will be operational in Wayanad, where this initiative is being piloted. Currently, these tools are only available in Darjeeling, West Bengal, and the Nilgiris in Tamil Nadu.

The project is being implemented in collaboration with national and state disaster management authorities and will review information provided by the public. The initiative, spearheaded by the National Landslide Forecasting Centre (NLFC) based in Kolkata, is expected to be fully operational within a year.

  • The public can log in via the mobile app or website.
  • Rain, climate changes, changes in rivers and streams, natural phenomena, unusual sounds, etc., can be reported here.
  • Experts will analyze the information and provide insights. Warnings will be communicated through the media.
  • The Bhooskhalan app is available for download on the Google Play Store.

Decisive Step

The real-time information available on the landslide portal will be crucial for rescue operations during landslides. This initiative represents a decisive step in the disaster mitigation efforts of the Geological Survey of India (GSI). The data provided on the Bhooskhalan app will be accurate, and both the app and portal will function complementarily.
