Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay on Monday inaugurated his renovated MLA office in Perambur and launched a dedicated mobile application that allows residents to register civic complaints online, marking his first official visit to the constituency after assuming office.

The upgraded constituency office at Sharma Nagar First Street in Vyasarpadi has been redesigned as a public service centre to improve access to government services and speed up grievance redressal. The launch forms part of the State government's broader effort to strengthen constituency-level governance through technology and citizen-centric services.

The newly launched mobile application enables residents to file complaints related to drinking water supply, electricity, sanitation, damaged roads, streetlights and government welfare schemes. Citizens can also track the status of their petitions online, reducing the need for repeated visits to government offices.

The renovated MLA office has been equipped with a dedicated chamber for the Chief Minister, CCTV surveillance and a 10-member team that will receive, process and monitor petitions submitted by the public every day. An integrated E-Sevai centre has also been set up inside the office, allowing residents to access multiple government services under one roof.

Monday's visit was Vijay's first major constituency programme after taking charge as Chief Minister. He had contested the Assembly election from both Perambur and Tiruchy East, won both seats and later retained Perambur after resigning from the Tiruchy East constituency.

During the visit, the Chief Minister also launched the State government's new ration card distribution programme. At a fair price shop in MKB Nagar, he handed over new ration cards to the first 50 eligible beneficiaries besides distributing essential commodities and land ownership pattas.

As part of the day's engagements, Vijay inspected an MTC electric vehicle charging station near the Vyasarpadi Metro Rail station and reviewed passenger amenities at a nearby Metropolitan Transport Corporation bus depot.

Coinciding with the Chief Minister's visit, the Greater Chennai Corporation initiated the process of preparing a comprehensive development plan for Perambur by floating a Rs 48 lakh tender for a Detailed Project Report (DPR).

The proposed development blueprint is expected to address several long-pending civic issues across the constituency, with a focus on flood mitigation, strengthening drinking water infrastructure, improving roads, easing parking congestion and restoring the polluted Captain Cotton Canal.

The initiatives announced during the visit are expected to strengthen public service delivery in Perambur while laying the groundwork for long-term urban infrastructure improvements in one of Chennai's densely populated Assembly constituencies.
