Thalassery: A bronze half-life sculpture of former minister and CPM leader Kodiyeri Balakrishnan will soon be unveiled at his residence. The sculpture is being installed by his family as a permanent memorial. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will inaugurate the artwork on Tuesday at 11:30 AM, coinciding with the second anniversary of Kodyeri's passing.

The completed sculpture was delivered and installed at Kodiyeri's home just a day before the unveiling. Alongside the sculpture, the family has organised a Kodiyeri Memorial Exhibition, which features personal belongings of the late leader, photographs with various political figures and family members, as well as gifts he received. This exhibition has drawn numerous visitors.

The sculpture is situated near the exhibition area, crafted by artist N. Manoj Kumar, standing approximately 30 inches tall. The construction began in January 2024, and the metalwork for the statue was carried out by Jeevan Kunhimangalam.

As part of the memorial activities, a volunteer march and public demonstration will commence on Tuesday at 4:30 PM from the vicinity of Kodiyeri Oniyan High School. The event will be inaugurated by CPI(M) Politburo member Brinda Karat.

New figurative sculpture

Payyannur: Kodiyeri Balakrishnan's family, including wife Vinodini and son Bineesh, visited Kanayi to view a figurative sculpture of Kodiyeri, prepared by artist Unni Kanayi.

This artwork was completed using moulds of his hands and feet taken shortly before his passing. The family had expressed their wish for the sculpture to be created in bronze and designed in a manner that allows the hands and feet to be visible and touchable.

The moulds of his hands and feet were cast in plaster of Paris, and subsequently transformed into bronze without altering the original features. Due to the busy schedule associated with the first death anniversary and the establishment of the Kodiyeri Memorial at Payyambalam, the sculpture could not be completed in time for that occasion but was ready for the second anniversary.

Vinodini Balakrishnan and Bineesh Kodiyeri received the bronze casting, which will be displayed in their home museum. Also present at the ceremony were P. Santhosh, CPM Payyannur area secretary, V.V. Gireesh, local secretary of Korom, and others. The metal cast sculpture will also be installed in the museum being prepared at Kodyeri's residence.
