Kollam: The Chithara Police have begun a detailed investigation into the case in which a DYFI activist was arrested for allegedly tampering with his National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) examination scoresheet. The police have reportedly traced the original and forged marklists of the accused, Sami Khan (21), a member of DYFI’s regional committee in Madathara, Kollam.

At present, the police are attempting to gain clarity over whether Khan forged the documents on his mobile phone or computer. The phone is being examined by the police.

Sami Khan, who was taken into police custody for interrogation on Wednesday, told the officials that no one else was involved in the fraud. However, according to the police, the youth has been deliberately trying to avoid questions in this regard.

Apparently, Khan told the police that he tried to pursue higher studies by forging the fake mark list with higher scores because of his inferiority complex and fear of humiliation after failing to pass the NEET exam twice.

The interrogation is being conducted by a team led by Chithara station house officer M Rajesh. The quizzing will continue on Thursday too. Also, the accused is likely to be taken for evidence collection on Thursday morning.

Khan, who failed to qualify for the NEET exam 2021-22, forged a marksheet with higher marks and later filed a petition in the high court alleging that he was not granted admission for higher education despite securing 468 marks.

However, the court prima facie found that the case was fake and the National Testing Agency (NTA) also informed the court that the claims raised by Khan were fake.

In spite of this, Khan stood firm on his arguments. Following this, the court ordered the police to carry out a detailed investigation. According to the police, Khan secured only 16 marks in the exam.

Meanwhile, the DYFI leadership announced that Khan will be expelled from the organisation over his involvement in the fraud.
