Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala cabinet on Wednesday decided to sanction Rs 10 lakh as a financial assistance to the family of a five-year-old Bihar girl, who was murdered in Aluva. The amount will be transferred to the joint account of the girl’s parents.

Earlier this week, an immediate relief grant of Rs 1 lakh was sanctioned to the family under the relief fund scheme of the state Women & Child Development Department, meant for aiding the kin of women and children facing sexual atrocities.

On Friday, July 28, the girl was abducted, brutally raped, and killed allegedly by a migrant worker from Bihar who lived in the same building as the victim. Her body was found dumped in a sack in a marshy area behind a local market in Aluva on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Ashfaq Alam, the accused in the case, has been remanded for 14 days. He has been charged with nine counts, including rape.
