Kozhikode: In a major security breach, a murder case accused escaped from Mental Health Facility in Kuthiravattam.

Poonam Devi, accused in the murder of migrant worker Sanjit Paswan in Malappuram, escaped from the premises on Sunday morning. However, police managed to arrest her from Vengara in Malappuram district.

ACP Sudharshan revealed that Poonam escaped by telling other inmates she was going to see her child. She escaped through the toilet on the first floor. She then boarded a bus from Kozhikode to Vengara. However, police managed to arrest her when the bus arrived at Vengara bus station.

Earlier, Poonam murdered her husband Sanjit at their residence in Vengara. A few months back, Sanjit brought Poonam and her child to Kerala from Bihar after learning that she was having an affair with someone else.

Poonam strangled her husband to death while he was sleeping on January 31. The post-mortem revealed injuries on his face and a broken neck. She later confessed to the murder during questioning.
