Kozhikode: A man accused of murder fled from the Government Mental Health Centre in Kuthiravattam here on Monday. The security lapses of the centre are in the limelight due to similar incidents.
The person has been identified as Malappuram native Vineesh (23) who was booked in the murder of a woman who rejected his wedding proposal (Perinthalmanna Drishya murder case).
The accused who was housed in Kannur Central Jail was taken to the mental health centre after showing some mental issues.
The person had attempted to end his life, but the timely intervention of the officials saved his life.
Meanwhile, the mental health centre has come under scanner after the accused managed to flee. The centre has witnessed multiple escapes, a death and staff shortage among others which garnered bad mouth.
