Kochi: As Onam approaches, the traditional ‘mundu’ (traditional garment that men wear around the waist) is once again in high demand across Kerala. Sales are booming with a massive increase expected this year, as locals prepare for the festive season. Traders predict a 30 to 40 percent rise in sales compared to previous years, driven by the popularity of both classic ‘kasavu’ mundus and designer versions.
Many are opting for mundus that match the colours of their shirts and kurtas, with prices typically ranging from Rs 500 to Rs 1,000. There is also a surge in the demand for mundus designed particularly for children, with handloom options available in the market.
