Superstar Mohanlal has finally addressed the growing controversy surrounding his recently released movie L2: Empuraan, the second installment in the Lucifer franchise, after the film sparked widespread backlash. The actor took to social media to apologise for the distress caused by some of the political and social themes featured in the film, acknowledging that they had deeply upset many of his fans and loved ones.
In a heartfelt statement posted online, Mohanlal wrote, "I know that some of the political and social themes that have been introduced in the making of the film 'Empuran', the second part of the 'Lucifer' franchise, have caused great distress to many of my loved ones. As an artist, it is my duty to ensure that none of my films is hostile to any political movement, ideology or religious group. Therefore, the team of 'Empuraan' and I sincerely regret the distress caused to my loved ones, and with the realisation that the responsibility for it lies with all of us who worked behind the film, We have decided together to remove such themes from the film."

Mohanlal’s comments come after the film’s controversial content drew criticism, particularly for its portrayal of sensitive political and social topics. The issues have led to widespread calls for a boycott from various groups, including political activists, social media influencers, and fans who felt the film was pushing a divisive agenda.
In support of Mohanlal’s statement, the film’s director and actor, Prithviraj, also reshared the post on his social media platform, stressing that changes would be made to the film to address concerns raised by audiences.
Mohanlal, who has been a prominent figure in Malayalam cinema for over four decades, went on to stress his long-standing bond with his audience.
"I have lived my film career as one of you for the last four decades. Your love and trust are my only strength. I believe that there is no Mohanlal who is greater than that," he added, expressing gratitude for the unwavering support of his fans.
Empuraan has been one of the most talked-about projects in recent times. However, the recent controversy has put its release in the spotlight for reasons beyond the film's storyline.
