L2: Empuraan, directed by Prithviraj starring Mohanlal, has become the center of a heated debate since release on March 27. Amidst growing controversies surrounding the movie, documents detailing the censorship process have now emerged, revealing the specific cuts recommended by the censor board.

According to the newly released information, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), which includes representatives from the Sangh Parivar, made only two key recommendations during the censorship process. The first recommendation was to shorten scenes depicting violence against women, while the second was to avoid references to the national flag in certain sequences. These were the only two aspects flagged by the censor board, which led to the necessary cuts in the final version of the film.

While the censorship process appeared to focus solely on these two issues, the film has sparked widespread criticism, particularly from supporters of the Sangh Parivar. Many BJP workers have expressed their displeasure on social media, alleging that the censor board failed to pay sufficient attention to the content of the film. Despite this backlash, the BJP leadership has taken a more measured stance.

After a core committee meeting, BJP state general secretary P. Sudheer and secretary S. Suresh publicly clarified that the party was not opposed to L2: Empuraan. Senior BJP leader M.T. Ramesh explained that the film should be viewed as a film, and that the people of Kerala have the common sense to separate cinema from reality. Union Minister George Kurien also lent his support to Ramesh’s viewpoint, stating that he too would watch the movie.
