Meppadi: A man allegedly let loose his pet dog to chase and attack Wayanad district women protection officer Maya S Panicker and family counsellor Najiya Sherin. The officials were at his house to inquire about the domestic violence complaint lodged by his wife against him. Police have arrested the accused Jose, a native of Wayanad's Nellumalam.
The dog bit twice on Maya’s leg and attacked Najiya when she fell in panic. Both sustained injuries. The dog also attacked their driver when he rushed to the scene to rescue the duo. Later, the dog was driven away by the locals who reached here after hearing the commotion.
Jose’s wife had filed a complaint at the women's protection office last month, alleging that he has been constantly abusing her physically. However, the complainant was unavailable by phone and this urged the officials to visit her house.
Jose allegedly let loose the dog and instructed it to attack the officials when he got to know about the purpose of their visit.
Following the incident, the officials sought treatment at General Hospital in Kalpetta.
