Eramangalam: A person who had gone to the family temple for prayers succumbed to a wasp bite. The deceased is P. R. Gopalkrishnan (74), an official from the Registration Department, hailing from Ponnani. During the incident, four of his relatives were also stung by wasps.

Gopalkrishnan and his family had gathered at the family temple near Eramangalam A.L.P. School for the monthly puja on Sunday. Around 10 am, during the puja, they were unexpectedly attacked by wasps, possibly triggered by birds in the nearby trees.

Due to age-related issues, Gopalkrishnan was unable to escape from the place, resulting in injuries to his body and face. He was taken to the hospital, but despite efforts, he could not be saved. Others who sustained injuries in the wasp attack include Amaljith (24), Muraleedharan (59), Shijil (34), and Anish (37).

Those who sought medical treatment at Perumbavoor Private Hospital are currently recovering at home. Gopalkrishnan's wife, Ratnavathi, is a teacher. The funeral will be held on Monday morning.
