Vadakara: Saithees Babu (32), a native of New Mahe, was arrested in a joint operation by the RPF crime wing and Chombala police, for hurling stones at the Vande Bharat Express, near Mahe railway station. The officials caught hold of the accused through a detailed investigation, with the help of CCTV visuals, and by tracing the mobile tower location. 

The incident pertaining to the arrest happened on August 16. Saithees threw a stone at the Vande Bharat Express headed towards Thiruvananthapuram, between Mahe bridge and railway station. The visuals caught on CCTV installed in the Vande Bharat Express became crucial evidence in the case.

Saithees who is said to have confessed to committing the crime was produced at the Kannur railway court and was remanded for 14 days.

Following the incident, Kozhikode Rural SP R Karuppasamy has instructed the officials to step up patrolling at railway stations and in the surroundings of railway tracks.
