Chalakudy (Kerala): A leopard was reportedly spotted near Chalakudy in Thrissur district during the early hours of March 24. The sighting occurred two to three houses away from the South Bus Stand, with the animal captured on CCTV footage around 4:50 am.
Locals are now reviewing their CCTV recordings, hoping to verify the animal’s presence. Forest department officials visited the residence where the footage was recorded and confirmed that the animal seen was indeed a leopard. Residents have been advised to avoid going out during the evenings as a precautionary measure.
Authorities set up trap in Koratty
Meanwhile, authorities had set up a trap in a region in Koratty of the same district, which lies less than Chalakudy, after another CCTV footage confirmed the presence of the animal. For the past week, efforts to capture a leopard have been ongoing but have so far been unsuccessful. Officials suspect that the leopard caught on the CCTV camera could be the same one they have been trying to catch.
