KSRTC has launched India’s first fully digital cloakroom system across nine major Kerala bus stations, offering secure QR-based luggage storage and enhanced passenger safety.

Thiruvananthapuram: In a first-of-its-kind initiative for any road transport corporation in India, the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has rolled out a fully digital cloakroom system across nine major bus stations in the state, enhancing passenger convenience and ensuring safer luggage management.
The facility was inaugurated by Kerala Transport Minister Ganesh Kumar on January 7, 2026, at the Thiruvananthapuram Central Depot. The Minister also opened a newly established AC rest centre for KSRTC employees at the same location.
KSRTC’s digital cloakroom system is designed to address a long-pending demand from passengers for secure luggage storage at bus stations. Operating entirely on a digital platform, the service replaces manual entries, improving accuracy, efficiency, and transparency.
Under the system, luggage is deposited and retrieved using a unique digital token or QR code, making tracking simpler and reducing the risk of loss or misplacement. The cloakrooms are also equipped with CCTV surveillance, secure storage facilities within defined time limits, and precise data recording.
The first phase of implementation covers bus depots at Thiruvananthapuram Central, Ernakulam, Aluva, Kollam, Alappuzha, Kozhikode, Munnar, Angamaly, and Kottayam. KSRTC Chairman and Managing Director Akram Pasha, IAS, said the service would soon be extended to more depots across Kerala.
The move is part of KSRTC's ongoing efforts to modernise Kerala’s public transport system through technology-driven solutions and improved service standards. The digital cloakroom marks a significant milestone for an RTC in India in improving passenger safety, convenience, and smart transport infrastructure.
