Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) Attingal Bus Depot is set to introduce a driving school and the 'Yatra fuel' project. Additionally, there are proposals to build a commercial complex on the land south of the depot.

Initial steps for the driving school project have already been completed. An office and a practical classroom have been set up within the depot's office building, with the necessary equipment ready for training sessions. The school will offer training for heavy vehicle drivers once the trainer is appointed and the registration process is completed.

KSRTC drivers will serve as trainers, and applications are being invited from eligible candidates for the position. Only after the trainer is appointed will authorities proceed with the registration process, which is expected to be completed soon.

Once these formalities are over, heavy vehicle training will begin. In addition to heavy vehicle training, preparations are underway to offer car and motorbike training, with plans to use the space behind the depot for this purpose.

The ground needed for car and motorbike training, along with the purchase of vehicles, will be taken from funds granted to MLA O S Ambika. The training for cars and motorbikes will commence once the necessary funds are secured.

The depot is also planning to start a ‘Yatra Fuel’ station near the national highway, in the area where the garage currently operates.

Officials believe this fuel station will be highly beneficial for travellers, as there are no petrol stations on the left side of the national highway between Mamam and Kallambalam for vehicles travelling from Thiruvananthapuram to Kollam. Currently, vehicles have to cross to the right side of the road to refuel, which can be inconvenient, especially given that the highway is a four-lane road.
