Kochi: A clothing retailer has been fined Rs 9,395 for failing to accept the return of a churidar purchased online by the Ernakulam District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission.
The complaint was filed by K G Liza, a resident of Edappally in Ernakulam, against Iha Designs Bridal Studio in Alappuzha. The complainant, a teacher, had ordered a churidar online for Rs 1,395. Immediately after placing the order, she requested a colour change, which the opposite party refused, stating that it was not possible.
When she tried to cancel the order, the opposite party did not permit. They claimed the product had been dispatched by post. However, the complainant informed the commission that, according to postal records, this was false.
After realising that the product received was not her size, she attempted to return it, but the opposite party refused to accept. They also did not refund the amount. The bench, comprising Commission president D B Binu and members V Ramachandran and T N Srividya, pointed out that refusing to replace or accept the return of a sold product was not an appropriate conduct.
