Passengers filming reels, vlogs or videos in restricted airport areas could face fines, device seizure and even a no-fly ban under new DGCA rules.

Creating Instagram reels, travel vlogs or social media videos at airports could now lead to serious consequences, including fines and even a ban on air travel, after the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) issued stricter guidelines on photography and videography inside airport premises.
The aviation regulator has warned passengers against recording videos or taking photographs in security-sensitive and operational areas of airports without prior permission. Officials say the move is aimed at preventing sensitive airport information from being captured and shared online.
Under the new rules, travellers are not allowed to film or photograph security checkpoints, boarding gates, apron areas, aircraft handling zones, runway buses and other restricted sections of airports. Authorities believe that even seemingly harmless travel content can unintentionally expose security arrangements, surveillance systems and operational procedures.
Can airport reels land you on the No-Fly List?
Yes, in serious cases.
Airport security personnel have been authorised to take immediate action against violators. While first-time or minor violations may result in passengers being asked to delete the content, repeat offenders or those found recording sensitive security-related footage could face stricter penalties.
The DGCA has said violators may be fined and, in severe cases, their names could be recommended for inclusion on the No-Fly List. Such action could result in a temporary or permanent ban on flying, depending on the nature of the violation.
Authorities may also seize mobile phones, cameras or other recording devices for investigation if required.
The regulator has made it clear that anyone planning to shoot advertisements, documentaries, films or commercial social media content inside airport premises must obtain prior approval from airport operators and security agencies.
Without the required permissions, filming activities will not be allowed.
Officials have advised passengers to remain cautious while recording content during their travels. While photography may still be permitted in designated public areas, travellers must follow all instructions issued by airport authorities and security personnel to avoid penalties.
