Kochi: Kochi Metro services were completely disrupted for some time after a tarpaulin sheet fell on the track during the heavy rain and wind that lashed Kochi on Thursday morning.
The tarpaulin sheet fell on the track between Ernakulam South and Kadavantra stretch. Due to this, the metro train traffic was completely stopped for fifteen minutes. The journey resumed after removing the tarpaulin from the tracks.
The timely intervention of the metro pilot averted a great danger. The metro pilot who noticed the tarpaulin that had fallen on the track, informed the authorities who in turn removed the same from the track.
Aiming at reducing passenger congestion and waiting time between trains during peak hours, more than 12 trips of metro trains were scheduled on a daily basis last week.
The present incident occurred amid the decision to run trains at seven-minute intervals during these hours.
The second phase of construction of the Kochi Metro from Kaloor Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium to Kakkanad Infopark has also started.
