Kochi: The organisers of esSENSE Global’s Litmus event, branded as “The World's Biggest Atheist Meet”, on Sunday clarified reports suggesting a bomb threat, calling the narrative false. A video posted on the official social media handle explained the actual sequence of events.

What happened at the event?

A live public session was abruptly halted after security personnel intercepted an individual attempting to enter the venue with a weapon. The incident took place around 11:30 AM while a discussion was ongoing on stage.

Event officials stated that security staff detected the person trying to bypass checks with a weapon. Police were immediately informed, and a small pistol was seized from the suspect, who has since been detained and taken to the station.

Security response and temporary suspension

The brief security breach prompted rapid safety measures. Event organisers paused the live programme as police, including the Bomb Squad and Dog Squad, carried out a detailed search of the venue. Attendees, volunteers, and the audience were evacuated and frisked before being allowed back inside.

Organisers stressed that the programme suspension was temporary and refuted rumours that the event had been cancelled or permanently stopped due to a bomb threat. Officials told media outlets that the interruption was a necessary step to allow authorities to investigate and secure the venue.

Resumption of the programme

After police and Dog Squad clearance, organisers confirmed the event resumed, with discussions restarting following the delay. The incident occurred just hours before a major evening function featuring T.J. Joseph and Taslima Nasrin.

Event official Praveen confirmed that security protocols for upcoming sessions would be further strengthened. To make up for lost time, the Question and Answer segments in three planned public interaction programmes may be shortened. Officials remain confident that the main events will conclude within the allotted schedule, despite a potential delay of approximately 30 minutes.
