An IndiGo flight bound for Dammam from Lucknow was diverted to Ahmedabad on Thursday after a crew member came across a piece of paper carrying the word 'bomb', triggering a security alert onboard.

The aircraft made an emergency landing at Ahmedabad airport as a precaution after the suspicious note was discovered. The incident was reported by PTI, citing officials.

Following the aircraft's arrival in Ahmedabad, security agencies initiated the required safety procedures and checked the plane for any possible threat.

The alert prompted authorities to treat the matter as a potential bomb threat until the aircraft could be thoroughly examined.

Subsequent checks, however, found no explosive device onboard, and the threat was determined to be a hoax, according to officials.

The incident led to an emergency response at Ahmedabad airport, with authorities prioritising the safety of passengers and crew following the discovery of the note.

The Lucknow-Dammam service is one of IndiGo's international routes connecting Uttar Pradesh's capital with Saudi Arabia. IndiGo introduced the direct Lucknow-Dammam service in 2023.

Authorities are expected to examine the circumstances in which the note was found and determine its source.

At this stage, officials have not reported the discovery of any actual explosive material on the aircraft.
