Aalin Sherin Abraham, a ten-month-old infant from Kottayam, became Kerala’s youngest organ donor after succumbing to injuries from a road accident near Pallam on February 5. Declared brain dead on February 13 at a private hospital in Kochi, Aalin’s parents, Arun Abraham and Sherin Ann John, chose to donate six of her organs, saving the lives of five individuals.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan expressed deep sorrow over the child’s passing, praising the parents’ decision as a “monumental act of compassion that reflects the true spirit of Kerala.” He extended condolences to the family and commended the health professionals, police, and support teams whose swift coordination enabled the transplants. The government announced that Aalin would be bid farewell with official state honours.

Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar called the parents’ decision “extraordinary” and highlighted that their selflessness has gifted life and hope to others. Opposition leader VD Satheesan described the organ donation as a message to humanity, commending the parents for prioritising the lives of other children even amid their grief.

Actor Mohanlal also paid tribute, calling Aalin a “little angel” whose legacy of compassion and hope will live on in the hearts of millions.

The organ donation process was managed by the Kerala State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation (K-SOTTO). Aalin’s heart valve, liver, and kidneys were allocated to hospitals in Thiruvananthapuram, while her eyes were donated to an eye bank.

This tragic yet profoundly humane act has garnered widespread attention, setting an example of selflessness and the power of organ donation to save lives.
