A Kerala-based content creator has sparked a widespread debate on social media after sharing a video that allegedly shows a man repeatedly staring at her chest during a crowded bus ride.

The woman, who was travelling in Kochi while dressed in a traditional Kerala saree for Onam, uploaded the clip to Instagram with a caption asserting that “dress was never part of the problem.”

What the video shows

In the footage, the woman is seen wearing a white-and-golden saree with a red blouse, seated in a packed bus next to a middle-aged man. Using her phone’s selfie camera, she captured the man repeatedly glancing at her inappropriately. At one point, she stared back, prompting him to momentarily look away, only for him to resume shortly after she moved her head.

Despite her direct gaze, the man acted as though nothing had happened and continued his behaviour. In a follow-up statement, she wrote: “I’m saying this with full confidence, there was absolutely nothing wrong with my outfit. This is a mental illness, a perversion!”

She added in the comments that the man had touched her, prompting her to poke him with a pin. After she reacted, he immediately got off the bus.

Public reactions online

The video quickly drew thousands of comments, many expressing outrage and support for the woman.

One user wrote, “I honestly can’t believe some boys are still defending this old creep. That’s not maturity, that’s pure ignorance. Not every girl reacts the same way when something like this happens; some people may freeze, some people may respond differently. She had the courage to record it and expose him so others know men like this are still out here. Next time, if he tries this again, people will recognise him. And if his friends or family see this, they’ll know his true character. So stop judging her reaction. She did the smart thing by exposing him. She already said she reacted, and that’s when he got up and left the bus.”

Another user pointed out, "Some people are arguing that he is looking at the phone. No, he’s not looking at the phone. Watch closely, you can see when he glances at the phone and when he shifts his eyes back at her. The angles are different, and what he’s really trying to do is obvious. Stop defending, perverts don’t deserve excuses!”

A third user commented, “Oh God… this is so uncomfortable… Why are you wearing a saree blouse? Wear a straitjacket instead. Oh, sorry, you are a woman, men will still molest you.”

In a follow-up video, the woman revealed: "I reacted strongly against what he did. As a result he got off the bus. I even filed a case against him.”
