New Delhi: At least 10 students at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) have accused a professor of sexual harassment, prompting an investigation by the university’s Internal Complaints Committee (ICC).
The complaints, reportedly submitted around a month ago, allege inappropriate behaviour both on campus and during classes.

According to reports, some students have alleged that the professor, who resides on the JNU campus, invited them to gatherings at his residence, where he allegedly made unwanted sexual advances.
Other complaints reportedly accuse him of making lewd or inappropriate remarks during classes.
The complaints are being examined by the ICC under JNU’s internal mechanism for addressing allegations of sexual harassment. The inquiry is expected to include interactions with the complainants as part of the proceedings.
Senior students raise similar concerns
The matter reportedly gained wider attention after senior students came forward in support of the complainants following a more recent complaint against the professor.
Some senior students have also reportedly raised similar concerns about the professor’s conduct. Further complaints, including potentially from former students, could emerge as the inquiry progresses.
Student representatives on the ICC have declined to comment, citing confidentiality obligations.
The JNU administration and the Vice-Chancellor’s Office have not yet issued a detailed public statement on the allegations.
The ICC is currently examining the complaints, and any findings or recommendations will depend on the outcome of its proceedings.
No police complaint filed so far
Delhi Police has reportedly said that no police complaint has been filed in connection with the allegations so far.
The matter therefore remains under examination through the university’s internal complaints mechanism. The allegations against the professor have not been independently established, and no conclusion of wrongdoing has been reached at this stage.
The ICC’s inquiry is expected to focus on the complaints and the responses of those involved. The university could issue further details as the proceedings continue.
