A strengthening monsoon is expected to bring heavy showers across Kerala, with Yellow alerts issued in eight districts

Thiruvananthapuram: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Yellow alert for eight districts in Kerala, warning of heavy rain and thunderstorms as the southwest monsoon strengthens across the region.
The India Meteorological Department has forecast isolated heavy rainfall across Kerala over the next five days, with a Yellow alert issued in eight districts for Sunday. The warning has been issued for Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Malappuram and Kozhikode districts.

According to the IMD, heavy rainfall refers to precipitation ranging between 64.5 mm and 115.5 mm within a 24-hour period.
Light rainfall is also expected at isolated locations in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha and Kasaragod over the coming hours. The weather department has also issued a rain warning for several districts for Monday, indicating that wet conditions are likely to persist.
Meteorologists say the southwest monsoon is regaining strength across the country, with southern states expected to receive the heaviest rainfall during the coming week.
Heavy rainfall is likely across Kerala and Mahe until June 23. The IMD has also forecast isolated heavy rainfall in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal.
Meanwhile, very heavy rainfall is expected in coastal Karnataka between June 21 and 25, while northern and southern interior Karnataka could receive heavy rain on June 22 and 23.
Heavy rainfall is also likely in Lakshadweep through June 21 as monsoon activity intensifies.
