Kanhangad: The Thiruvonam bumper lottery in Kerala has seen ticket sales exceed Rs 274 crore this year. After accounting for agency commissions and GST, the government is expected to receive about Rs 214 crore. The total prize money, which includes the agents' share, is less than Rs 140 crore.
The ticket price for the Thiruvonam bumper lottery, which offers a Rs 25 crore first prize, is Rs 500. After deducting the agency commission and the 28 percent GST, the government earns Rs 390.63 from each ticket sold. So far, 65 lakh tickets have reached the district lottery offices, with 5,488,818 tickets already sold. The lottery draw is scheduled for October 9, and the lottery department predicts that over 30 lakh additional tickets will be sold in the next eight days.

This year marks the third Thiruvonam bumper lottery featuring a first prize of Rs 25 crore. Interestingly, tickets from other districts are now more popular than those from one's own districts. Recognising this, agents are exchanging tickets among themselves to boost sales.
