Kozhikode: In a remarkable fusion of technology and compassion, Adidev Narayan, a young inventor from Kozhikode, has created a nursing-assisting robot called ‘NARS.’  Adidev, a class 8 student, known endearingly as Aadu, designed NARS to help reduce the risk of spreading diseases in healthcare settings, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic. His creation aims to make healthcare safer by minimising human-to-human contact while delivering essential services.

NARS is designed to deliver medicines to patients, replacing the need for direct contact between nurses and infected patients. The robot uses robotic hands to administer medication, helping to reduce the risk of transmission. Adidev was inspired by the difficulties that healthcare workers faced during the Covid-19 period, when many nurses were infected while performing their duties.

Apart from administering medication, NARS also has a video call feature that allows healthcare providers to communicate with patients. Nurses can use this feature to monitor patient conditions from a safe distance. The robot is WiFi-enabled, which allows it to be controlled remotely from up to 100 metres away using a laptop.

One of the most notable features of Nars is its versatility. The robot can move across different surfaces, and its LED lights allow it to function at night, making it ideal for use in various hospital settings. Nars is a unique blend of functionality, innovation, and practicality, helping healthcare systems adapt to challenges presented by pandemics and other emergencies.

Adidev's early passion for technology

Adidev’s journey into robotics and technology began at a young age. His mother, M Jisha, a nursing college teacher, and father, P Dileep, who works in the IT sector, have always supported his interest in electronics. Adidev's fascination with toys that involved electronics started when he was just four years old. Now, as an eighth-standard student at Malaparamba Vedavyasa School, he has already developed his own programming language for NARS, showcasing his extraordinary skills.

Adidev has big plans for 2025, with plans to further innovate and improve NARS. His next step will be to make even more advancements to the robot, aiming to further support healthcare workers and patients alike.
