Doctor accused of running over college student Jaslia in Angamaly arrested from Vagamon homestay after days in hiding.

Idukki: Dr Cyriac P George, the prime accused in the case in which college student Jaslia was run over and killed by a car in Angamaly, has finally been arrested. He was apprehended by the Vagamon Police from a homestay near Kannamkulam where he had been hiding.
To avoid being identified, he had completely shaved off his beard and altered his appearance. Acting on a tip-off, a police team in plain clothes reached the location and attempted to detain him, during which he also tried to flee.
The incident occurred on February 28 when Jaslia, who was walking along the roadside on her way back to hostel from work, was brutally knocked down by the car driven allegedly by Cyriac. After the accident, he allegedly fled the spot without stopping the vehicle or attempting to provide medical assistance to the injured girl.
Jaslia, who was considered the great hope of her family, succumbed to her injuries while undergoing treatment in hospital. Even in death, she gave a new lease of life to four people by donating her organs.
Earlier on the day, the police have arrested Cyriac’s father for helping him remain in hiding. According to information received, it was a relative who brought Cyriac to the homestay in Vagamon. Police will conduct a detailed investigation to determine whether the homestay owners or staff had any role in sheltering the accused.
There had been criticism that the police took six days to apprehend the accused despite having obtained evidence, including CCTV footage.
