
Kozhikode: As many as 3,818 domestic violence cases were reported at the service providing centres of the Social Welfare Board during the period when the first wave of Covid-19 was reported in the state.
“If we consider the cases registered at the State Crime Record Bureau, State Women’s Commission and personal complaints, the figure may double, says Soosan Kodi, Chairperson, Social Welfare Board.
During this period, 4,338 children were physically and mentally affected by domestic violence.
Of the 3,818 cases related to violence against women, as many as 1,837 were redressed through counselling and 360 cases through court. 160 complainants got financial aid and another 30 got compensation. FIR registered in 599 cases and in 499 cases order was issued to protect the victims with the help of service providing centres.
These cases were reported during the period from January to March 2020. 41 percent of these cases were under the influence of intoxication and 21 percent were due to dowry related issues. The influence of social media and mobile were the cause of 18 percent of the cases. Another 18 percent of cases were resulted due to extra-marital affairs.
