Idukki: In the wake of incessant rains, the shutters of Kallarkutty Dam in Idukki have been raised by 15 cm. The current water level in the dam is 454.55 metres. The maximum limit is 456.60 metres. 

Those residing near Periyar and Muthirapuzha rivers have been instructed to remain vigilant by the disaster management authorities. As per reports, the Pampla Dam in Idukki is also likely to be opened soon.  

Further, night travel through hilly regions has been banned in Idukki from 7 pm till 6 am. The district collector has assigned the district police chief to monitor stringent imposition of the ban in the region. 

In Thiruvananthapuram, heavy rainfall and strong winds have been reported in the city and coastal areas. Also, on account of possible landslides, tourists will not be allowed entry to Ponmudi hills.

Meanwhile, there has been a slight drop in rains in Pathanamthitta. Seven disaster relief camps are functioning in the district and 18 families were relocated.  

Holidays have been declared for educational institutions, including professional colleges, in Kuttanad. Rains have been lashing Ernakulam continuously for the past 48 hours. 

In the wake of heavy rainfall forecast, Orange Alert was announced in Kannur, Idukki, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod districts of Kerala.

Help desks at schools 

Education Minister V Sivankutty has directed to open help desks at schools to inform the parents and students about rain updates. Help desks should function from 8 am till the school closes.
