
Thiruvananthapuram: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday issued a special rainfall forecast bulletin for Kerala. According to that, rains or thundershowers are most likely to occur at a few places in Kerala from January 4 to 6, and at one or two places from December 31 to January 3.
“The Low Pressure Area over West Equatorial Indian Ocean & adjoining Southeast Arabian Sea persists over the same region with the associated cyclonic circulation extending upto mid-tropospheric levels at 0830 hours IST of today. It is likely to move west-northwestwards and become Well Marked Low Pressure Area over central parts of south Arabian Sea & adjoining West Equatorial Indian Ocean during next 48 hours,” IMD release said.
IMD on Saturday cited an easterly wave and predicted light to moderate rainfall across Kerala till January 2. The special bulletin comes a day after this.
According to IMD, the northeast monsoon has been weak over Kerala. Rain occurred at one or two places in Kerala, it added.
